Improving Pipeline Planning with Online Analytics

Challenge:
The Immunology division within Genentech has an elaborate, paper-based process for evaluating the technical feasibility and market attractiveness of new molecules. Bound in documents rather than a database, data quickly grows stale and loses its power to help shape strategy and resource allocation. Decision makers lack the ability to ask "what if" questions of the data as they map out alternative development scenarios.

Solution:
Shepard Associates designs an OLAP-based knowledge management and system that creates up to date reports and also allows for free-form queries. The application gives users insight into the currency of the data and ensures that team members from Clinical, Commercial, and R&D are all working from a single, up-to-date knowledge-base.
